LIFE CYCLE
you know when a musical artist puts out a mixtape in 2011 and then follows up with a critically acclaimed debut in 2012 then in mid to late October of 2012 everyone is starting to hear about them through their 3rd freely downloadable "leak" pushed by music blogs but you have one friend who is all like "yeah the 2011 stuff is way better/i saw them in a basement/yeah i know that guy" even though they downloaded all 3 albums in one October afternoon and read about them online?

Yes...! This is reminiscent of certain forums / shoutboxes on http://www.last.fm/, generators and followers of opinion that are heavily influenced by Pitchfork and Wikipedia. By the way, are you referencing a particular artist? What are you listening to these days? Cheers...
ReplyDeletevery true, about the shoutboxes, pitchfork, and everything. i was sort of referencing Death Grips, but the idea applies to so many. in the past few hours i've been listening to DG and Bjork, trying to find things that don't wear out upon on multiple repeats--it's hard.
ReplyDeleteI noticed a new (?) Death Grips album floating about on some blogs, but I haven't checked it out yet. I'm a fairly big fan of Zach Hill, especially when it concerns his band Hella, but I haven't quite caught an ear for DG. I totally get the difficulty of finding "multiple repeats" value. Someone who rarely fails (and it is, admittedly, VERY mood contingent) is Nils Frahm. And a few technical death metal bands : )
